A lot of people have asked: can you dye a synthetic wig? Well, if you’re thinking of dyeing it with some regular semi-permanent hair colors, you can quit it. They won’t work for synthetic wigs. Synthetic wigs are made out of plastic. They will not absorb hair dye like natural hair does. The only way that you can really dye synthetic wigs is with fabric dyes. However, there are some alternatives that can help you change the color of a synthetic wig. Let me share two methods with you.

Method 1: Use Eye Shadow and Hair Spray

The first way to change the color of a synthetic wig is to use the old-fashioned way with some eye shadow and hair spray. There are lots of different colors in our eye shadows. We can use them on cute wigs too. The Sunny Glow synthetic wig from UniWigs is absolutely to die for, but I think we can make it a little bit more fun by changing the color of it. I’m going to try some ombre colors with blue and pink. Let’s start with sectioning the hair into two parts. Then we can add colors to the hair. Before that, remember to wear gloves. Otherwise, your hands and nails will be messed up with colors. Okay, we’re going to dip in some blue eye shadow. Brush it right on there. I chose a nice faded blue. This is basically hair chalk at this point. Add a little hair spray when you’re done with a small strand. Finish the downside part of the hair where you want it to be blue, and then we can move on to the upside part to make it pink.

I think it’s a super cute wig honestly. I just really thought that would give the same tinted effect like it does everything that you drop it on while you dye your hair. You can literally add any color you want to the hair in this way.

Method 2: Use Some Highlighter Markers

Is this the ultimate synthetic wig hack? It could be. Karlie is another cute synthetic wig from UniWigs, but it’s too natural. We can make it more fun by changing the color too. Since it’s blonde, it is much easier to put colors on it. Before we start, we need a tarp or something to cover the table to ensure it doesn’t get ruined. The idea we’re gonna try is to mix pink with orange. I think that would look super cool.

First, we need to loosen the wig up so we can lay it as flat as possible. Let’s start on the very bottom of the wig, and try this in sections. Always remember to wear gloves before we do the coloring! Grab a comb too just in case we need to spread the hair out some more. Now let’s take the pink marker and just brush up from the ends of the hair. This is going to be a lot of combing and a lot of coloring. We need to be patient. Don’t be too worried that we might brush some of the hair up and it’s tangling a little bit because that means we won’t get a solid line of demarcation, which is cool. An ombre is only an ombre if it kind of trickles into each other. When we feel there’s enough pink, we can switch to the orange marker. A little hint here: in order to color more quickly, we can take the whole middle part out of the marker and roll it across the hair. When we’re done coloring the wig, it will be a little wet from the marker. So, we need to let it dry a little bit.
