What is a Single Piece and How do I use it?

A single-piece hair extension is one hair extension weft that can be added to your hair to increase hair volume. At UniWigs, single-piece extensions are available in our one-piece collection. These extensions come in five different varieties:
1. The tape-in (no-clips) piece is 1.5 inches in width. The length is 14 inches. It weighs 3 grams.
2. 1 clip classic weft is 4 inches in width. The length is 14 inches. It weighs 15 grams.
3. 4-clip classic piece is 7 inches in width. The length is 16 inches. The weight is 15 grams.
4. 2-clip invisible PU bonded piece is 4 inches in width. The length is 14 inches. The weight is 30 grams.
5. 3-clip invisible PU bonded piece is 6 inches in width. The length is 18 inches. It weighs 35 grams.
These single pieces are all the same hair density, whereas the weights are different due to the different widths and lengths. All UniWigs human hair single pieces are made from 100% Remy human hair, which is considered the finest quality of human hair for hair extensions.
A single piece is best for when...
You have purchased a hair extension set that doesn't quite provide you with enough volume.
You have fine/thin hair or a blunt haircut and want some extra volume for a seamless blend.
You are blessed with thick hair, but you would like a bit more hair in certain areas, or our thickest 200g set is not thick enough for you.
UniWigs single-piece extensions have a medium density, where 3 pieces of hair are stacked on top of each other and bonded to the weft base. The clips are then hand-sewn onto the extensions with love, where a silicone grip is attached underneath each clip to prevent slipping.
1. HOW DO I WEAR A SINGLE PIECE?
For a tape-in single piece, you must firstly tear off the small tape on the edge of the extension to apply it to your hair. As UniWigs tape-in single pieces are 1.5 inches in width, they can be simply applied by yourself or others. Tape-in extensions can be removed using tape-in remover.
If you want to apply many tape-in single pieces, we suggest getting help from a professional. Check to see if there is a UniWigs salon service available near you.
For a clip-in single piece, if you have a 6-inch or 7-inch piece, place it at the widest part of your crown for best results. Use 4-inch single pieces at the sides of your head where necessary. Clip-in single pieces can also be stacked on other pieces to add more volume.
2. IS A SINGLE PIECE THE SAME AS A HALO EXTENSION?
No. Single pieces are smaller and available in different widths and lengths. Single pieces also offer less volume than Halo extensions. Halo extensions include a circular clear wire creating an invisible "halo" which is then placed on top of your head.
3. CAN I USE A SINGLE PIECE AS A REPLACEMENT TO A FULL SET OF HAIR EXTENSIONS?
We do not recommend using single-piece extensions as a replacement to a full set of UniWigs Hair extensions. Single-piece wefts are not designed to give you a full, long, luscious look on their own as a full set would. Single pieces are good for adding supplemental thickness.
4. CAN I USE A SINGLE PIECE WITH MY OTHER HAIR EXTENSIONS?
Yes. You can absolutely wear a single clip-in piece in conjunction with your full set of UniWigs hair extensions. We recommend clipping in the single piece at first, then layering a second single piece over the weft about half an inch down from the roots.
If you are looking for even more volume and thickness, you can wear multiple single pieces. We recommend replacing the smaller weft (for 140g, 160g, 180g, or 200g sets) to avoid the wefts feeling too heavy in your hair, however, it is all down to personal preference!
5. WILL THE SINGLE PIECE FEEL HEAVY IN MY HAIR?
As the weft will only add an extra few grams of hair to your head, you may not feel any weight added. However, if you wear a few single pieces, we recommend wearing them a few times to get used to the weight.
6. DOES THE SINGLE PIECE COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS?
The single pieces are available in 20 to 30 shades. The shades offered include Black, Brown, Blonde, Balayage, and Ombré.
7. WHICH LENGTH SHOULD I CHOOSE?
To determine how long UniWigs extensions will be on you, we recommend measuring your hair with a measuring tape, starting from the top of your ear (as most wefts will be applied around the crown of your head).
14-inch hair extensions are recommended for people with a hair length of 15"-18".
16-inch hair extensions are recommended for people with a hair length of 18"-22".
18-inch hair extensions are recommended for people with a hair length of 20"-24".
8. CAN I CUT THE SINGLE PIECE?
YES. If the single piece is longer than your hair, you can cut the hair to match your own hair. If you wear the single pieces at the sides and would like a face-framing result, you can cut it to blend in with your own hair.
9. CAN I CUT THE SINGLE PIECE WEFT INTO PIECES?
No. If the actual weft of the single piece is cut, the sides will begin to fray, and the hair will fall out. We do not recommend cutting the weft in any way.
10. CAN I WEAR A SINGLE PIECE ON ITS OWN?
Our single pieces are meant to be worn in conjunction with a full set for extra volume. Although single pieces can be worn separately on their own if your hair is the same length as the single piece, we do not recommend using a single piece as a replacement to a full set of hair extensions. Single pieces are not designed to give you a full, long, luscious look on their own, as a full set would. Single pieces are good for adding supplemental thickness.
