HIGH FASHION FESTIVAL HAIRSTYLES THIS SUMMER

Summer is a season that sees lots of trendy hairstyles emerging from the recent runways. As is expected for every Fashion Week, the models on the runways exhibit new stylish looks from hairstyles to shoes, so it is no surprise that some of the best new hairstyles come from the runways. This year, we saw stylists play wild cards by getting creative with natural hair, hair extensions, and wigs too. From Paris Fashion Week to London Fashion Week, we looked closely to bring you some of the most sensational new hairstyles and cuts.

Bubble ponytails

Bubble ponytails

Instead of going for regular ponytails or pigtails, stylists spiced it up this year by incorporating bubbles in the pigtails. This model's wavy hair was pulled into two high bubble pigtails and secured at the base firmly. The bubbles on the ponytails provided the look of volumized hair, which was paired with the shiny and smooth hair at the parting, which added a sophisticated element to the pigtails. Pigtails are known for looking young and child-like, however this style adds a unique twist which oozes sophistication as the perfect festival-like summer hairstyle.

Double Plaits

Double Plaits

Small plaits have been fashionable since the beginning of time, but these nicely decorated small double plaits have captured our attention. Here we saw one runway hairstylist get creative. Both models’ hair was parted into a middle parting, and each side of the hair had a few small plaits from the front of the scalp to the back. The plaits were tied right to the ends and tied quite tightly at the top of the hair. Finally, some floral and butterfly pins were used to accessorize. We are here for this double plait look. It gives the appearance of young and whimsical fairy-like fashion, which is perfect for summer.

Bobs and everything short

Bobs and everything short

Short haircuts have been heavily popular in 2020, and so it was not surprising that there were many beautiful bob cuts seen on the runway this year. Many models had their hair trimmed impeccably to chin length, or even shorter, and were rocking it like it was the best thing that had ever happened to the catwalk. The short length gave the wearer a chic but classic look. Bob cuts were also seen to be extremely healthy looking and shiny on the runway. A couple of models wore bob wigs on the runway instead of cutting their own hair short, but you could hardly tell the difference. Nothing beats that!

Silk scarfs

Silk scarfs

Stylists got creative this year, by incorporating beautiful silk and patterned scarfs with simple, well-known hairstyles. We saw one model have her straight hair packed firmly and knotted at the back of the scalp like you would every other day. However, instead of having the remaining hair fall to her back plainly, the stylist weaved a colorful silk scarf into her hair. The hair was plaited with the scarf in it and knotted at the end to keep both hair and scarf in place. For extra summer style this year, try experimenting with different styles by using a silk patterned hair scarf!

Loose buns

Loose buns

Buns have been at the forefront of the hair industry for years and we can confidently say that buns will never go out of fashion. Only different styles of buns may go in and out of style. Some models had their hair (straight and wavy) crafted into elegant yet effortless low knotted buns at the nape of their neck. Normal, right? Not entirely. Rather than have all the hair tied in one compact bun, the stylist allowed the ends of the strands to hang loose out of the bun before knotting the hair at the base. The leftover hair was then tied into a bun with some more strands hanging loose. The finished result looks very cool for summer, yet still looks like a lot of effort was made into styling it.

Hairline Plait

Hairline Plait

Plaits and braids are almost always tied slightly away from the edges of the hairline. However, this spring runway looks showed an increased hair trend in French plaits tied right at the hairline. The hair was parted into two equal sections, and each side was plaited into a braid at the hairline that fell to the front of the face. The braids were left untouched and tidy, giving the model a minimalist but sleek look.

Half-up top knot

Half-up top knot

Effortlessly trendy half-up top knots were present at Fashion Week this year because, why not? Like every top knot, a section of the model's hair was crafted into a knotted bun at the top, while the rest of the hair was allowed to fall freely. However, instead of just knotting the hair, the stylist added two short plaits at the top before tying everything off. This look screamed beau!

Dramatic slick side parts

Dramatic slick side parts

Side partings have been around for years and we’d thought we’d seen it all, BUT the way some hairstylists had created these dramatic side parts on their models for the runway had us doing double takes in our seats. This style included a deep side parting, with the hair shiny and volumized at the top. The hair was smooth and had a sleek, compact look with hair pulled back and tucked behind the ears. The hairstyle drew us in from the moment the model stepped out.

Multiple braids

Multiple braids

With some more time to spare, this hairstylist was able to create five tight braids on the model's hair. A hair extension was incorporated which gave the hair more volume which made the style soft and pleasing to the eyes even without clips and extensions. This style we found absolutely beautiful for summer!

Natural half-up

Natural half-up

You know what the half-up top knot looks like? Well, this style that was seen on the runway is not far from it. The model had the top of her hair from her crown pulled back and tied into a single plait down the back of the hair. Because the hair was wavy, it gave the style a delightfully natural look that gave us some seriously good vibes.

Bob and bangs

Bob and bangs

As mentioned earlier, bobs totally conquered the runway this spring and had us grinning from ear to ear. Some stylists took the classic bob look a step further. Instead of having the model cut her own hair, a wig was used. The wig was defined into a bob, with thick polished bangs put into place. The bangs complemented the bob in ways that words cannot describe.

So, those are our top hair looks that were seen on the runway this year. Most of these styles were created with the model's hair but we were able to pick out a few that were created with wigs. You could absolutely recreate some or all of these looks with wigs and extensions if you have good hair skills or a hairstylist. These styles will continue to be seen this summer, and we hope these looks gave you some hair inspiration.
